Canadian Journalism Foundation 12th Annual Awards Gala

The Canadian Journalism Foundation invites you to join them in celebrating and recognizing journalistic excellence at its 12th Annual Awards Gala on June 9, 2009 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.

The Foundation announced earlier that Joe Schlesinger is the recipient of the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award. Schlesinger has reported for the last four decades from every part of the globe. He has covered wars and conflicts from Vietnam to the Gulf, and much more, throughout his illustrious career. The award will be presented to Schlesinger by Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada. She will be addressing the gala audience, composed of roughly 400 of the nation's top journalists, media executives, business and public sector leaders.

The Foundation is also pleased to welcome Morley Safer back to his native Toronto for a tribute at this year's Gala. With a body of work spanning six decades and a host of awards to his credit, Safer is one of North America's most celebrated journalists. While he's best known for his nearly 40 years as a correspondent on the CBS News program 60 Minutes, his broadcast career began in Canada with the CBC.

Other awards that will be presented at the gala include the Excellence in Journalism Award - which will be awarded to winners in two categories: large media and small media - the Greg Clark Award, the Canadian Journalism Fellowships, the Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy and the Martin Wise Goodman Canadian Nieman Fellowship.
