The Southern Festival of Books returns to Nashville in 2008 at the War Memorial Plaza on October 10-12. The Southern Festival of Books is held annually in October and was one of the first American book festivals beginning in 1989. The Festival is celebrating its 20th year this fall. The three-day gala invites more than 200 authors in all genres.
For the first time, the Southern Festival of Books will host an "Authors in the Round," dinner and gala on Friday, October 10th. Over 40 authors will be attending and will sit at each table with the attendees. The dinner will be hosted by John Seigenthaler from "A Word on Words" that airs on NPT-Nashville Public Television. "This will be an extraordinary literary gathering for people who love books. How often do you get to have dinner with a favorite, world-renown author?" said Todd Bottorff, Publisher at Turner Publishing, Honorary Chairman of the evening.
"We have been overwhelmed by the response to the event, most tables have already been reserved. With only a few remaining, we imagine that the event will be sold out well in advance," commented Serenity Gerbman, coordinator of the festival.
President of Humanities Tennessee, Robert Cheatham said, "Humanities Tennessee is excited about the Authors in the Round dinner and the commitment and enthusiasm of the volunteers who are organizing this fund-raising event for the Southern Festival of Books. It represents a genuine commitment to the future of the Festival and a recognition of the importance of this event in the cultural life of Nashville,"
A sample of confirmed authors include: Darrell Arnoult, Madison Smartt Bell, Rick Bragg, Clyde Edgerton, Justin Evans, Beth Ann Fennelly, Robert Hicks, David Maraniss, Brenda Vantrease, Frank Durham, and others.
