Aug 19 2010 - The Great American Bargain Book Show - Boston, MA

The Great American Bargain Book Show (GABBS), an annual industry trade show for the remainder and off-price book resale industry now in its second year in Boston, has announced the addition of two important conference sessions running one each day of the event in Boston.

According to Larry May, founder of GABBS, "The remainder book business is a very important and significant part of the book retail industry, and with the addition of the Industry Perspective Series we are helping attendees and participants learn where some of our market leaders see the business going. The retail sector has been hit as many markets have with the economic downturn, but through the Industry Perspective Series we are highlighting growth areas and presenting thought-leaders from both book publishing and book buying to talk about where growth opportunities may lay, and how to best target growth programs in the coming years."

Joining the program as panelists for the Publisher's Perspective on Thursday, August 19 at 9:00 AM are Michael Friedman, publishing industry consultant and long time publishing executive with Barnes & Noble and Friedman/Fairfax Publishing Company; and Charles Nurnberg, President & Publisher at Imagine Publishing. The Publisher's Perspective will look at how the market for books has evolved and where both independent and larger publishers are seeing the opportunities for books in the coming years.

The Buyer's Perspective on Friday, August 20 at 9:00 AM includes David Strymish of New England Mobile Book Fair and eCookbooks in Newton, MA, one of the most successful independent book retailers in the Northeast; and Barbara Seibert of Purple Turtle Productions, a successful independent online bookseller. The Buyers will talk about how their world has evolved and changed with new channels opening up and product lifecycles moving faster.

The Great American Bargain Book Show runs Thursday and Friday, August 19 and 20, 2010 at the Hynes Convention Center. It is open to the trade only, with online registration at http://www.gabbs.net/. GABBS 2010 will attract several hundred buyers from across the United States, with heavy concentration in the Northeast. Buyers represent off-price retailers, general merchandise and household products retailers, booksellers and online retailers. The Boston area is home to a number of major off-price retail chains. Over 400 seller tables will be included at this event, a slight increase over 2009. The Industry Perspective Series at Great American Bargain Book Show is sponsored in part by World Publications Group, East Bridgewater, MA.
