UI Writers' Workshop alumnus Beachy-Quick will read March 30

Poet, essaying and critic Dan Beachy-Quick, an alumnus of the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, will read from his work at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, in the Frank Conroy Reading Room of the Dey House.

Beachy-Quick's poetry collections include "North True South Bright" ( 2003 ); "Spell" ( 2004 ); "Mulberry" ( 2006 ), a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award for poetry; and "This Nest, Swift Passerine" ( 2009 ). He is also the author of "A Whaler's Dictionary" ( 2008 ), a collection of linked essays responding to Herman Melville's "Moby Dick."

His poems and reviews have appeared in journals including Parnassus: Poetry in Review, the Denver Quarterly, the Colorado Review, Volt and Conduit.

His work has been supported by the Lannan Foundation. He has taught at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Colorado State University.
